Carles Capdevila was a Catalan journalist and screenwriter with a great career, not only in journalism but also in education, having a significant impact on children's education.
In one of his last interviews, where he presents his latest book The Life I Learn, 2017; already with some weakness due to the cancer he was suffering from, he powerfully conveys the essence of life: We come into this world basically to love each other, to seek someone who loves us; to take care of ourselves and to find someone who takes care of us and to learn.(…) Living is coming here to learn, to do it as well as you can, to love and to care.
How many times do we focus our life’s goal on developing a professional project, on achieving something so important, on saving and buying the house of our dreams… forgetting that the main purpose of living is to love. When one loves, one gives; when one feels loved, one grows.
Capdevila comments in the interview on the need people have to fill their lives. He talks about how people are programmed to do things with their hands, a metaphorical way of saying that we are made to do concrete things. True, man is made to create, build, grow; but with a perspective from within. The basis of this creating, building, or growing is from the heart, with love. This is precisely what MAP consists of, conquering your day-to-day life in such a way that your thinking, speaking, and doing are coherent with your inner self. Otherwise, one limits oneself to merely filling their life.
And what is love? Simply wanting the good, both for oneself and for others. Loving oneself and loving others, taking care of oneself and taking care of others.
I would like to end this reflection with some words from Carles Capdevila himself, which summarize his success in this life:
When you write from the heart, you reach the heart of people. When you write from the mind, you reach the mind of people.
