This week, our colleague Jordi Claret, primary school teacher and family man, conducted a workshop for Eurekakids television titled “Learning to Manage Emotions.”
As he himself announces at the beginning of the talk, his approach to the topic is based on his own personal experience as a parent, as a teacher, and also as a MAP professional.
In a very clear and practical way, he differentiates emotions from feelings, thoughts, and sensations. He defines each of the emotions and provides us with resources to detect and manage them effectively: He defines sadness as unfulfilled expectation. Fear as possible loss. Anger as the moment of loss. He explains that when we feel disgust, we perceive something that may harm us. Or that when we feel surprise, we do not know what is happening; he emphasizes that this is the most “dangerous” emotion and must be managed first. Finally, he defines joy as fulfilled duty.
It is essential to know how to distinguish them so that we can resolve them in the moment they occur.
He also created the following map of emotions for the talk:

And to conclude, he ends the talk with a quote from an American author that says, “If you want your children to grow up well, spend twice as much time with them as you currently do and spend half as much money on them as you currently do.” This is the best way to help manage our children's emotions.
Thus, in just over 30 minutes, Jordi gives us a masterful and clarifying lesson on emotions. I encourage you to watch the video!
